Remove PDF Metadata

Every PDF carries hidden fields most people never see: who created it, which software and version produced it, and when it was written and last edited. This tool strips those fields while leaving the visible pages exactly as they are. It is free, needs no account, and adds no watermark to your result.

When you need this

What people use it for.

Sending a CV or proposal without revealing your name, employer or the template you started from
Publishing a document without exposing which software and version your organisation runs
Sharing a file whose creation and revision dates would tell the wrong story
How it works

What happens to your file.

The document information dictionary and XMP metadata are cleared, then the file is saved fresh so the removed entries are not left behind in the previous revision. Page content, fonts and images are untouched.

Where it stops: Metadata that an author typed into the visible page, such as a name in a header, is page content and stays. Use the redaction tool for that.

Questions

Common questions.

What exactly can a PDF reveal about me?

Commonly the author name, title, subject, keywords, the producing application and its version, and creation and modification timestamps. Together these can identify a person, an employer, and the machine or template used.

Does this change how the document looks?

No. Only the hidden fields are cleared. Every page renders identically, and text stays selectable and searchable.

How do I check what metadata a file has first?

Run it through the PDF Metadata Viewer, which lists every field it can read. Inspect first, then clean, so you know what was actually there.
