File Hash Calculator
Calculate SHA-256, SHA-512 and MD5 checksums for a file. This is how you prove a download arrived intact and unmodified, and how you confirm two files are byte-for-byte identical. It is free, needs no account, and adds no watermark to your result.

What people use it for.
What happens to your file.
The file is read in chunks and SHA-256, SHA-512 and MD5 digests are computed in a single pass. The file itself is never modified, and the temporary processing workspace is removed after processing.
Where it stops: MD5 is included for compatibility with older published checksums, but it is broken for security purposes. Use SHA-256 whenever you have the choice.
Everything you need, without a paywall.
Common questions.
Which hash should I use?
SHA-256 for anything that matters. MD5 is only there because many older projects still publish MD5 sums, and it should never be relied on for security.
My checksum does not match. What does that mean?
The file differs from the original, even by one byte. Usually an incomplete or corrupted download; occasionally something more serious. Download again and re-check.
Does hashing change my file?
No. It is a read-only calculation over the bytes.
