PDF to Word

Turn a PDF back into an editable Word document: real paragraphs, real headings and real tables, not a picture of the page dropped into a .docx. Scanned pages are read with OCR, so they become text you can edit too. It is free, needs no account, and adds no watermark to your result.

How it works

What happens to your file.

Each page is read as text blocks and tables rather than as a picture. Tables the engine recognises confidently are rebuilt as real Word tables with borders, and the text inside them is not duplicated as loose paragraphs. The remaining blocks are placed in reading order, top to bottom, and their font size decides whether a line becomes a heading or body text. A page with no text layer at all is treated as a scan and read with OCR, so its words end up in the document as well.

Where it stops: This rebuilds the content, not the design. Multi-column layouts, text boxes, footnotes and anything drawn as part of an image will move or flatten, and a table the engine cannot recognise confidently arrives as ordinary paragraphs. Expect to tidy the formatting on a heavily designed document.

Questions

Common questions.

How do I convert a PDF to Word for free?

Add the PDF and download the .docx. It opens in Word, Google Docs, LibreOffice and Pages, with editable text and tables.

Will the result look exactly like the PDF?

No, and no converter can honestly promise that. Text, headings and recognised tables come across so you can edit them; complicated page design needs tidying.

Does it work on a scanned PDF?

Yes. A page with no text layer is recognised as a scan and read with OCR, so you get editable words instead of a picture. Accuracy depends on how clean the scan is.

Are tables kept as tables?

Yes, wherever the engine recognises one confidently. It is then a real Word table with cells you can edit, not tab-separated text.

Is my PDF uploaded?

Yes. Reading a PDF and running OCR need the service, so the file is processed in a temporary workspace that is removed after processing.
