What happens to your file.
The PDF is parsed with PyMuPDF, which exposes each page as a list of drawing and text objects. Overlay objects that repeat in the same position across pages are the classic watermark signature, so those are the candidates for removal. Marks that say what they are are taken out directly: the watermark Adobe Acrobat adds (tagged as a watermark, often on a layer named Watermark), DRAFT and CONFIDENTIAL stamps, and notes such as "Created with WPS Office" that export tools print in the footer. Anything else you can point to: use Select the watermark on the page, draw a box around it, and choose that page or every page.
Where it stops: A watermark that was flattened into a scanned image is no longer a separate object, so it cannot be lifted cleanly. A selected box clears everything inside it, so draw it around the mark only. Only remove watermarks from documents you own or are authorised to modify.

Common questions.
Will removing the watermark blur the text underneath?
No. Because the watermark is deleted as an object, the text and images beneath it are untouched and stay vector-sharp. Tools that paint over a watermark damage the page; this one does not.
How do I remove a watermark that is not detected?
If it is text, type it in Watermark text and every standalone copy is removed, never the same letters inside your paragraphs. If it is a logo or stamp, use Select the watermark on the page, drag a box around it, and choose whether that box applies to its own page or to every page.
Does it remove watermarks added with Adobe Acrobat?
Yes. Acrobat marks its watermarks as watermarks inside the file, often on a layer of that name, and those are removed wherever they appear. DRAFT and CONFIDENTIAL stamp annotations go too; stamps such as Approved are left, because they record a decision.
Why did it say no watermark was found?
Either the mark is not one it can recognise on its own, in which case type its text or select it on the page, or it is baked into a scanned page image rather than sitting on top as its own object. In that case there is nothing to delete, and you would need to edit the page image instead.
Is it legal to remove a watermark?
Only on documents you own or have permission to change. A watermark often signals copyright or confidentiality, and removing it from someone else's document can be unlawful.
