What happens to your file.

The PDFs are opened on this device and their pages copied into a new document in the order shown. Pages are copied whole, so text stays selectable, links keep working and images keep their original resolution: nothing is re-rendered or re-compressed. The merge happens in your browser, which is why it takes about a second and why the files never leave your computer.

Where it stops: A password-protected PDF has to be unlocked first, because its pages cannot be read while it is encrypted. Form fields with the same name across two files will share a value once merged, and interactive features tied to a specific document, such as some signatures, are not carried over.
