A segmentation model running on our own hardware separates the subject from everything behind it and produces an alpha channel, and the result is written as a PNG so the transparency is real rather than white paint. The subject itself is untouched: only the background is made transparent.
Where it stops: Fine hair, glass, smoke and motion blur are where every background remover struggles, and those edges are worth a look before you use the result. A subject that blends into its background, or a photo where it is genuinely ambiguous what the subject is, will need a manual touch-up. The download is always a PNG, because JPG cannot hold transparency.

How do I remove the background from a picture?
Add the photo and download the PNG. The background is gone and the subject keeps a soft, natural edge.
Why is my download a PNG?
Because JPG has no transparency. A JPG would fill the background with a colour instead of leaving it clear.
Can I put a new background behind it?

How good is it with hair?
Good in ordinary light against a contrasting background, weaker when hair blends into what is behind it. Check the edges before using it anywhere official.
