File Metadata Inspector
Inspect what a file is and what it carries: name, extension, detected MIME type, exact size, timestamps where available, and format-specific details for common media. A quick first look at anything unfamiliar. It is free, needs no account, and adds no watermark to your result.

What people use it for.
What happens to your file.
The file signature is matched against known formats, the structure is parsed where the format allows, and everything found is returned as JSON. The file is not modified.
Everything you need, without a paywall.
Common questions.
What if the extension is wrong?
The detected type comes from the file contents, not the name, so a mismatch is reported. The MIME Type Detector focuses specifically on that comparison.
Does this show EXIF from photos?
Basic image details appear here. For the full EXIF block including GPS, use the Image Metadata Viewer.
Is my file stored?
It is temporarily staged to produce the report. The processing workspace is removed after processing.
You might also need.
Detect a file type from its signature, extension and parsable format information instead of trusting the filename alone.
Calculate SHA-256, SHA-512 and MD5 checksums for uploaded files without changing their contents.
Inspect image dimensions, format, EXIF fields, camera data, orientation, DPI and embedded metadata as JSON.
Inspect video codec, audio codec, resolution, frame rate, duration, bitrate, streams and container metadata using ffprobe.
