When you need this

What people use it for.

Cutting one clip out of a long recording to send to someone
Removing the dead air at the start and end of a screen recording
Trimming a video to fit a platform time limit
Keeping one moment from a long phone video instead of the whole thing
How it works

What happens to your file.

FFmpeg seeks to your start time and keeps the length you ask for. Because the clip is re-encoded rather than cut at the nearest keyframe, it starts and ends where you said rather than a second or two out. The result is H.264 video with AAC audio in an MP4, written with its index at the front so it starts playing before it has finished downloading.

Where it stops: Re-encoding is not lossless. The quality setting is high enough to look the same to the eye, but a master file should be trimmed in an editor that can cut without re-encoding. Trimming keeps one continuous span: to cut something out of the middle, trim the part before and the part after, then join them with Merge Video.

Questions

Common questions.

How do I cut a video without a watermark?

Set the start time and the duration, then download. No watermark, no account, and no length limit beyond the usual upload size.

Is the cut accurate to the second I asked for?

Yes. The clip is re-encoded, so the start and end land where you set them rather than at the nearest keyframe, as a copy-mode cut would.

Can I remove a section from the middle?

Trim the part before it and the part after it as two clips, then join them with Merge Video. This tool keeps one continuous span.

Does it lose quality?

Slightly, as any re-encode does. The quality is chosen to be visually transparent for normal footage, but keep your original as the master.

Is the audio kept?

Yes, re-encoded as AAC alongside the video. Use Mute Video if you want the picture without the sound.
