Video to Animated WebP

Convert a video clip into an animated WebP. It behaves like a GIF in a web page but is far smaller and supports far more colours, which makes it a better choice for modern sites. It is free, needs no account, and adds no watermark to your result.

How it works

What happens to your file.

FFmpeg samples the clip at your chosen frame rate and width and encodes it as animated WebP at the quality you set, looping continuously.

Where it stops: The selected duration and frame rate must yield at least two frames, otherwise the result would be a still image. WebP animation is well supported in modern browsers but not in some older email clients.

Questions

Common questions.

Is WebP better than GIF?

For animation, substantially. It supports millions of colours instead of 256 and produces much smaller files at similar quality.

Will it work everywhere?

All current browsers support animated WebP. Some older email clients and legacy software still do not, where GIF remains safer.

Why did I get a single-frame error?

Your duration multiplied by frame rate produced fewer than two frames. Increase either so there is an actual animation.
