Ask PDF

Ask a question about a PDF and get back the passages most relevant to it, each linked to its page. It finds where the answer lives in the document rather than generating an answer that might be wrong. It is free, needs no account, and adds no watermark to your result.

When you need this

What people use it for.

Finding a specific clause in a long contract without reading it end to end
Locating where a manual covers a particular procedure
Checking whether a report addresses a specific topic at all
How it works

What happens to your file.

The document is split into its paragraphs and your question is ranked against them with BM25, the scoring search engines use: common words are ignored, rarer words shared by the question and a paragraph count most, and plural or inflected forms still match. Each result is a whole paragraph with its page number. Nothing is sent to an external AI service.

Where it stops: This retrieves passages rather than composing an answer. If the document does not discuss your question, you get the nearest matches rather than a confident wrong answer, which is deliberate.

Questions

Common questions.

Does it write an answer for me?

No. It shows you the relevant passages and the pages they came from. That means you can verify the source, and it cannot hallucinate an answer.

Is my document sent to an AI provider?

No. Retrieval runs locally on our own server with no external service involved.

Why are the results not relevant?

Either the document does not cover the topic, or the wording differs from your question. Try phrasing your question using terms the document itself would use.
