Image Format Converter

Convert images to JPG, PNG, WebP or AVIF and pick the format that fits the next step. JPG is broadly compatible, PNG keeps lossless detail and transparency, and WebP and AVIF make much smaller files for the web. It is free, needs no account, and adds no watermark to your result.

How it works

What happens to your file.

Add images, choose the output format and quality, and download. Process file converts on our server: an animated GIF or WebP stays animated when the output is GIF or WebP, each page of a multi-page TIFF becomes its own picture, and transparency is kept in PNG, WebP, AVIF and GIF. The date taken, camera and location carry over with the picture turned upright, unless you untick that option. 16-bit scans and print CMYK photos with their press profile come out with the right tones and colours, and each file is named after the original, so photo.heic becomes photo.jpg. The visual editor converts single pictures in your browser instead, so they never leave your device.

Where it stops: Converting JPG to PNG cannot restore detail already lost in the JPG. JPG and BMP cannot store transparency, so see-through areas are filled with white, or with the colour you pick in the visual editor. An animation converted to JPG, PNG, AVIF or BMP keeps only its first frame.

Questions

Common questions.

Which format should I choose?

Use JPG for compatibility, PNG for lossless graphics or transparency, and WebP or AVIF for smaller web images.

Can I convert several images?

Yes. Add as many as you like; they are converted together and downloaded as one ZIP.

Will transparency be preserved?

Yes in PNG, WebP, AVIF and GIF. JPG and BMP cannot store it, so transparent areas are filled with white, or with the colour you choose in the visual editor.

Will an animated GIF stay animated?

Yes, as GIF or WebP, with its timing and looping. JPG, PNG, AVIF and BMP hold a single picture, so they get the first frame.

Is the date the photo was taken kept?

Yes, with the camera and location, so converted photos still sort by date. Untick “Keep date taken, camera and location” to leave them out, or use Remove Image Metadata.
