Image Enhancer

Fix a flat, dark or slightly off-colour photo in one step. The picture is measured first, and only what is measurably wrong is corrected: flat contrast, underexposure and a colour cast, each by a bounded amount, so a photo that is meant to be warm stays warm. It is free, needs no account, and adds no watermark to your result.

How it works

What happens to your file.

The automatic step measures three things and corrects only those that need it: local contrast is lifted where the image is flat, so haze and backlighting recover without blowing out highlights; exposure is raised only where the picture is genuinely dark, and only part of the way; and a colour cast is reduced by a capped fraction of what was measured, rather than dragging every scene to grey. A light sharpening pass follows. Brightness, contrast, saturation and sharpness can also be set by hand, with or without the automatic step, and transparency is carried through untouched.

Where it stops: This is a correction, not a rescue. Severe blur, camera shake, a completely blown-out sky or heavy noise need a different tool, or a different photo. The colour correction is deliberately gentle, so a strong cast is reduced rather than removed entirely.

Questions

Common questions.

What does Enhance Image actually change?

Only what it measures as wrong: flat contrast, a dark exposure and a colour cast, each within a limit, plus light sharpening. A well-exposed, neutral photo comes back almost unchanged, and nothing is added that was not already in the picture.

Will it fix a blurry photo?

No. Sharpening makes existing edges crisper; it cannot recreate detail lost to camera shake or a missed focus.

Will it turn my sunset or warm portrait grey?

No. The colour correction is capped at a fraction of the measured cast, so a scene that is meant to be warm keeps its warmth. Switch the automatic step off if you want full manual control.

Does it work on scans and screenshots?

Yes. Faded scans usually benefit most, since contrast and colour are exactly what age takes away.
