What happens to your file.
The text is drawn onto the image in a heavy bold sans face with a black outline whose thickness follows the text size, so it stays legible on light and dark areas alike. Long lines wrap automatically and the default size adapts to the image width, so the caption fits without being cut off. A caption too long for its third of the picture is made smaller until it fits, and Arabic and other scripts are shaped correctly. An animated GIF stays animated, with the captions on every frame, and a sticker on a transparent background keeps its transparency.
Where it stops: Text is placed at the top and bottom in the classic layout; this is not a free-form editor for arbitrary positioning. For a caption placed anywhere on the image, use Add Text to Image instead.
Everything you need, without a paywall.
Common questions.
Is a watermark added to my meme?
No. The image comes back with only the text you added. Most free meme sites stamp their own logo on the result; this does not.
Can I caption an animated GIF?
Yes. The captions are drawn on every frame, and the result is a GIF that keeps its timing and loops like the original.
Can I put the text somewhere other than top and bottom?
Not here. This keeps the classic top-and-bottom layout deliberately. Use Add Text to Image if you need to position text freely.
Will the text stay readable over a busy photo?
Yes. The text is drawn with a heavy contrasting outline, which is exactly why the traditional meme style uses one — it stays legible over light, dark and cluttered backgrounds.
