Add Text to Image

Add text onto an image for labels, captions, callouts, thumbnails, simple annotations, or quick social graphics. The exported file is a normal image with the text drawn into it, so it works anywhere an image upload works. It is free, needs no account, and adds no watermark to your result.

How it works

What happens to your file.

The text is rendered as pixels on top of the image at the position, size and colour you choose. Because the text is flattened into the exported image, the result is compatible with upload forms, chat apps, slides, documents and social platforms that do not support editable layers. For readable overlays, contrast matters more than decoration: light text needs a dark area behind it, and dark text needs a light area.

Where it stops: Once exported, the text is not separately editable or selectable. Keep the original image and write down the wording if you expect revisions. Long text on a busy photo is hard to read; for multi-sentence notes, use a document or add a clean background area first.

Good overlay text

  • Keep it short: a label, number, date, price or one-line caption.
  • Avoid placing text over faces, detailed textures or important product details.
  • Leave margin near the edges so social apps and slides do not crop it.
  • Preview at the size people will actually see, especially on mobile.

When to use another tool

Use Watermark Image for ownership marks, Meme Maker for top-and-bottom caption layouts, Screenshot Beautifier for framed screenshots, and Image Border when the picture needs a clean edge before text is added.

Questions

Common questions.

Can I move the text?

Yes. Set the position and preview before exporting.

Is the text selectable?

No. It becomes pixels in the image.

Can I add a watermark instead?

Use Watermark Image when the goal is repeated branding or ownership marking.

What makes overlay text readable?

Use short wording, strong contrast, enough margin from the edge, and a size that still reads on a phone screen.
