Questions

Common questions.

Why does one ICO hold several sizes?

Windows draws icons at different sizes depending on context. Embedding several lets the system choose the sharpest one rather than scaling.

Does transparency survive?

Yes, when the source is a PNG or WebP with an alpha channel.

Should I use this or the favicon generator?

Use this for a standalone ICO. Use the Favicon Generator if you want the complete web icon set including the PNG sizes.
